New York Democratic Rep. Charlie Rangel has given his thoughts on law-abiding citizens in America owning a gun.
The law surrounding New York City’s firearms has been criticized in the past for favoring retired police officers or those with the right connections within the police department to have concealed carried permit.
When Rangel was asked if those that are law-abiding residents who live in the US should have concealed carry permits also, he replied with a duplicitous answer:
“I wouldn’t want them to have it. I know what you’re trying to say. Corruption is corruption, and it’s bad,” Rangel said.
“Law-abiding citizens just shouldn’t have to carry a gun. You’re not gonna push me in that direction,” he said, standing just five feet from a Capitol Police officer, who stood at his post by the House Speaker’s Lobby.
Charlie Rangel feels that in order to be approved for a firearm, applicants must provide a good cause.
He took a controversial stance on the Second Amendment and stated that only prominent business leaders, elected officials, journalists, judges and attorneys are among the important individuals that should be able to own a gun.
Sounds a bit deluding and self-righteous on his part if you ask me.
According to ijr:
In 2016 Rangel told the Daily Caller he was “glad” to hear that it was difficult to get a concealed permit in his home state of New York. He even went on to say he wouldn’t want the law-abiding residents of his Harlem district to be able to carry.
“I wouldn’t want them to have it,” he said.
Rangel’s comments come amid reports that NYPD officials accepted bribes in exchange for gun licenses and special privileges.
But when the Daily Caller reminded Rangel that he and other members of Congress are protected by armed U.S. Capitol Police, he revealed his true feelings on the subject.
“Well, that’s a little different. I think we deserve — I think we need to be protected down here,” the Democrat admitted.
