Dem. Rep. Admits He Doesn’t Care About Getting Gun Facts Wrong: ‘I Will Use Assault Rifle Interchangeably’

Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) admitted he does not have a problem using incorrect terminology for firearms.

The suspect that murdered 17 people at the high school shooting last week has been identified as 18-year-old Nicolas Cruz.

More information has come up about the student since the shooting last week according to a Sheriff. One of the students math teachers explained details about the shooter. He recalled that the student was not allowed to wear a backpack on campus because he had problems the previous year threatening students and was asked to leave campus. The Sheriff of Broward County Office also mentioned that the shooter had been arrested at the scene at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

President Trump released comments on Twitter after the tragic shooting:

However, much of the entire shooting has turned into a debate over “gun rights and terminology” and not much about the shooter himself.

Reported by ijr:

As the debate of gun rights versus has been reinvigorated after the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) admitted he does not have a problem using incorrect terminology for firearms, specifically assault rifles.

Lieu made his confession after being confronted about using the term “assault rifle” to describe the AR-15:

By definition, assault rifles are capable of switching from single-fire to burst or fully automatic fire. Since they have been banned to the public since 1934, it is false to say an AR-15 is an assault rifle.

When called out, Lieu replied, “I will keep saying assault rifle if I feel like it”:

Lieu doubled down and said it is “bizarre” when people are more upset at his using the wrong terminology than they are over the loss of life:

He also admitted he would use correct terminology when passing legislation:
